First Mother,

First Father,

Father Sky

And Mother Earth,

First Star,

And Soul Star of my being,

I light this candle

In symbol of the spark of your divine creation.

May you guide me to be positive,

And be like a radiant sun, shining for all.

About the invocation by Chris Kaplan From Yonder Shore

This Opening Invocation, this prayer, are the words I say aloud or in silence with my heart-mind, beginning every ceremony and nearly all my meditations.

I’ve only written it down a handful of times, and shared it even fewer.

For the first time, I contemplate sharing it publicly, perhaps posting it to my website where anyone who feels drawn to it can read its words, maybe utter them with their heart-mind and light another candle of the heart, one by one, until all the world is illuminated like a radiant sun. The Luminous Ones walk earth as her steward, spread far and wide, tending to their heart’s garden—humble and meek or with glorious manes of a lion, none of that matters, really, each divine, each devote in their individuated journeys along the mythic round.

The Liminal Path is one of thresholds and edges, skirting the realms of Self and Other, ever-realizing that Other is Self and the continuum is vast, multivariant, and singular all at once in the cosmic goose egg of nonduality. All belongs to the emanation of the Dream. Waking matter solidified in illusion fostered by its own transience.

A part of me feared that sharing this Litany would somehow dilute its power or significance to my heart in the same way I don’t share my altar except with a select few or become careless with who handles objects sacred to me. But words and objects sanctified through perpetual honoring—walking the same path as me, sitting in the same fragrance of smoldering resins and wavering shadows of candlelight have a funny way of taking on their own personalities as if life has been breathed into them through the simple acknowledgment of their presence. Self and Other only exist in the realm of binary—this isn’t a judgment or a negative but only a layer/filter/lens of reality amongst many, belonging to none just as much as One.

With these words, this guiding prayer that so much wants to be voiced beneath the trembling earth and sung through a starlit sky, it is my wish—or their wish—to be shared and multiplied, joining a harmonic symphony of hearts walking the terrain of the numinous that is only the pathway of the heart.

May each of us be carried by feet as light as a feather, ever-guided by the radiance of our hearts ringing to the resonance of love that binds all things.

Thanksgiving to you, the eye aplenty, reflecting the glint of lightness of all being.
